April 2: time to break down the barriers
Did you know that on April 2 millions of blue balloons will fly to the sky all over the world, and the main buildings and monuments of major cities will be illuminated with blue light? 10 years ago, this day was established by the UN General Assembly as the World Day for Dissemination of Information on Autism or, as it is called today an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In different countries, there is a growing trend in the number of children with this disorder, the cause of which has not yet been fully explored. According to the US Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), every 68th child has an ASD. Throughout the world, individuals with ASD are often subjects of stigma, discrimination and human rights violations, and their access to services and support is inadequate.
The charitable foundation of Bulat Utemuratov "Asyl Miras" invites all those who are not indifferent to this problem to take part in the charitable campaign “Time to break down the barriers”, which will be held in Almaty, Astana, Kyzylorda, Ust-Kamenogorsk. On this day, anyone can pass an interactive test and get rid of false stereotypes about autism, and then “let their fears go” along with blue balloons in the sky.

The purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness in Kazakhstan about the need for early detection of ASD in “Asyl Miras” specialized autism centers or in other nearest medical institutions that provide such services. ASD is a disorder that occurs as a result of a developmental disorder in the brain, when the child has difficulties in establishing interaction with the outside world. Early detection of ASD allows for timely initiation of programs for children and helps parents significantly improve the quality of life of children with ASD in the future.
The foundation’s program “Autism. The world is one for all” is aimed at improving the quality of life of children with ASD through the creation and implementation of a progressive system of assistance. Within the framework of this program, the foundation opened 4 “Asyl Miras” autism centers in Almaty, Astana, Kyzylorda and Ust-Kamenogorsk cities. In “Asyl Miras” autism centers children can pass through an early diagnosis and in case of ASD signs revealing receive an assistance with the help of specialized programs. Their parents can also receive free educational, informational, and consultative support.
